If you love food, culture, and community, Sacramento is the place to be this September. From September 26–28, 2025, the city will host Terra Madre Americas. The first event of its kind in the U.S., Terra Madrea is a can’t-miss experience for anyone curious about where our food comes from and where it’s going.

What Is Terra Madre?

Terra Madre is the flagship gathering of the global Slow Food movement. Normally held in Italy, it brings together chefs, farmers, artisans, and food lovers to celebrate traditions, share ideas, and shape a healthier, fairer food system. This year, Sacramento becomes the first American city to host it—and with its farm-to-fork reputation, it couldn’t be a better fit. Sacramento will alternate with Slow Food’s home city, Bra, Italy, to host the festival every other year for the next ten years.

Founded in Italy in 1986, Slow Foodi s a global network of groups and activists dedicated to the common goal of ensuring everyone has access to good, clean, and fair food.

Why You’ll Want to Go

Why Sacramento?

Sacramento is America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital for a reason. Surrounded by 1.5 million acres of farmland and bursting with a vibrant culinary scene, it’s the perfect backdrop for a festival that celebrates food at every level—from seed to plate.

Whether you’re a die-hard foodie, a wine lover, a sustainability advocate, or just looking for a weekend that feeds both your stomach and your soul, Terra Madre Americas is worth the trip. Come hungry, come curious, and come ready to be part of something bigger.
